For Volunteers and Alumni

Through our guiding principles, we believe one of our greatest gifts is to give back to the community. As an EST alumnus or volunteer, you can make a big difference for a new generation of students in foster care and students from low-income communities who were once like you.

Virtual Volunteering (College Applications)

Students often say, “I don’t know what to write.” Or “I don’t know where to begin.” A blank screen or paper can be intimidating for even the most experienced writer. The purpose of teaming a writing coach and students is to enable them to overcome any fear of a blank page by helping applicants focus on telling their compelling stories. Volunteers provide 1:1 college application assistance. From September to December, each volunteer will spend four hours a week assisting students with writing their UC Personal Insight Questions, Common Application essays, and activity lists.

In-Person Volunteering (Scholarship Club)

Volunteers provide small groups (3 to 4 students) with monthly feedback on their institutional and private scholarship essay drafts on the first Sunday of every month from 1 to 5 pm (or four hours) at the Culver City Teen Center, 4153 Overland Ave., Culver City. Lunch will be provided.
